Homeowners are generally shocked when they learn the real timeframes involved in designing, going to tender then building or renovating their Dream Home.
Often owners will have owned the land or lived in the property they intend to transform for many years before kicking off the process. They know that the process of creating their Dream Home is one that will take great emotional and financial investment, so the wait is absolutely warranted.
But once owners kick off the process, they tend to want it done pronto. Builders and designers have heard umpteen times that “We want to be in by next Christmas”. And if that were going to be possible, they probably should have started the ball rolling much earlier.
My advice to those embarking on this incredible journey is to give your project the gift of time. Where possible, giving your project this gift will put you in the driver’s seat and enable you to make the best possible decisions at every turn.
What we don’t want is to be at the mercy of time, engaging with design and build professionals not because they were the best fit for you and your project, but because they were available.
