I meet with a lot of builders. One question I always ask them is, “Who is your ideal client?”. The project’s style, size and scope will vary between builders, but there are always two comments that remain consistent across the board. Builders want to work with clients who-

So if you want to attract the right builders, you first need to be an attractive client, and I’m not talking in the Elle McPherson or Chris Hemsworth kind of way. A prepared inquirer will have design documentation and associated permits prepared or underway. A potential client with realistic expectations will also anticipate how long it will take to build and how much it will likely cost within current market conditions.
